Company Director Narrowly Avoids Jail

Company Director narrowly avoids jail and is ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work after one of his employees receives serious injuries from defective machinery.

Despite knowing the telehandler was in an unsafe condition the Director allowed his inexperienced employee to be trained on the plant. Company Director Toon attempted to free the stuck machine whilst his trainee Tinsley was climbing out of the machine through a window. The machine inadvertently moved crushing Tinsley against a gate post. An HSE inspection discovered the telehandler had a host of serious long term faults including defective brakes.
